As first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, former West Virginia guard Mike Gansey has been promoted to general manger of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers made the promotion on Wednesday morning.

Gansey served as the assistant general manager since 2017, being assigned the role from former general manager Koby Altman. Altman was recently elevated to President of Basketball Operations, making the general manager spot vacant. Gansey, a West Virginia University alumnus, started working for the Cavaliers in 2011, starting as an intern. Now, Gansey has worked his way wall the way up to general manager over 11 years.

Gansey played at WVU from 2004-06, helping the Mountaineers reach the Elite-8 in 2005 and the Sweet 16 in 2006. Gansey averaged 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 68 games under former head coach John Beilein.
