Miles McBride Injured in First Game Back From Surgery for Knicks
After a long wait to return to the court for the Knicks, former WVU basketball guard Miles “Deuce” McBride left his first game back in the third quarter after suffering an injury Sunday.
McBride underwent a sports hernia surgery in February and made it back to the court ahead of schedule. The injury occurred when McBride collided with a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder while diving for a loose ball.
The Knicks play the Houston Rockets Tuesday and McBride is listed as questionable.
โI havenโt talked to medical yet, so I donโt know how bad it is. But itโs tough,โ head coach Mike Brown said after the game. โHeโs worked his tail off to be back. And I donโt think he made a shot in the first half, but he gave us a lift. You felt his presence.”
McBride, 25, has averages of 12.9 points, 2.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game in 35 games. Heโs averaging just over 28 minutes per night.
Last year, McBride averaged 9.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in 64 games played. In the postseason, he had 5.8 points per game.
McBride has become a key piece for the Knicks, having played 24.9 minutes per game while averaging 9.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.5 rebounds during the 2024-25 campaign. He helped the Knicks advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost in six games to the Indiana Pacers.
In December 2023, McBride signed a $13 million extension with the Knicks over the next three years. The Knicks traded away several players throughout the season, allowing McBride to pick up more minutes in the rotation.
McBride played two seasons at West Virginia from 2019-21, leading the Mountaineers to an NCAA Tournament appearance during his sophomore year. McBride averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game at WVU.
