Another in-state player signs to begin his journey as a Mountaineer. Morgantown high school product Andrew Phares officially signed as a preferred walk-on with the WVU football program on Wednesday morning.

The 5-foot-9, 150-pound Morgantown, W.Va native signed during a ceremony at his school. He has experience at both wide receiver and cornerback.

Phares signing comes about a month after he announced his commitment to accept West Virginia’s offer to attempt a career as a PWO player.

While he did receive scholarship opportunities from schools like Frostburg and Waynesburg, Phares decided he would rather try to live out his dream of playing home games at Milan Puskar Stadium as a West Virginia Mountaineer instead.
