The West Virginia Mountaineers host the Texas Christian Horned Frogs Tuesday night at 7:00 pm est inside the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers are 12-2 all-time versus the Horned Frogs; however, West Virginia has dropped two out of the last three to TCU.

In the first meeting of the season, the Mountaineers received their first 30-point loss of the season. It was the worst loss since the 2015 Sweet 16 game against Kentucky (78-39).

The West Virginia season has been plagued with injuries, suspensions and dismals. TCU has caught the injury bug as well with five players having season ending injuries throughout the year. TCU is down to a seven-man rotation, while West Virginia has eight scholarship players available, but two walk-ons Logan Routt and Taevon Horton have contributed minutes.

TCU has still found success and are currently in the field of 68, due in large part of their veteran guards Desmond Bane (15.1 ppg) and Alex Robinson (13.0 ppg).

West Virginia has struggled to find any consistency, but with the departures of Esa Ahmad and Wesley Harris, this young Mountaineer team is steadily improving. WVU had been staying in games until about midway through the second half, when opponents would put together a run in which the Mountaineers never recovered.

That changed on Saturday in Waco, Texas when it looked like Baylor was about to take over the game at about the 10-minute mark, but the Mountaineers didn’t fold. They battle the Bears till the final minutes but was unable to get their shots to fall going 1-7 from the field and 0-3 from three-point range until Jermaine Haley hit a three with 11 seconds remaining.

Freshman Jordan McCabe had the best game of his young career with 14 points, four assists and five rebounds along with Andrew Gordon’s breakout game of 13 points.

“I thought Jordan (McCabe) played really well. I thought he got us into what we need to get into. Obviously, Drew (Gordon) had a breakout game.” Said West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins at his media availability Monday before the game. “If we continue for those guys to get better and win some games at home, we gotta couple more game at home, win a couple of games at home, go on the road with some confidence we can move up the standings a little bit.”

Meanwhile, TCU snapped their three-game losing streak beating No. 19 Iowa State 75-72.

This game is going to come down to the end and it will be decided by the play of the guards. The Mountaineers will have to deny penetration and look to deny Alex Robinson the ball.

The Mountaineers have the advantage with freshman Derek Culver and they will continue to pound the ball inside to create opportunities around the rim.

I believe the Mountaineers find some magic inside the WVU Coliseum and get the win in the final seconds, boosting this young WVU teams confidence.
