Nevada Transfer DB Visiting WVU Football Before SEC School
WV Sports Now can confirm through our partners at the Portal Report a transfer defensive back is visiting West Virginia later this week. Nevada transfer Michael Coats Jr. will be in Morgantown on Jan. 8, granted that’s not his only Power Four visit of the week.
Coats will go from WVU to Ole Miss, visiting the Rebels on Jan. 9.

Coats, who spent three years at a community college after not playing football in high school, is able to continue his college career due to a new NCAA rule. He then transferred to Nevada, recording 13 total tackles and a pick in 10 games in 2023 and then 42 tackles and four interceptions in 2024.
Coats was named a first-team All-Mountain West player for his play from this past season.
