Both future Mountaineers, Oscar Tshiebwe and Miles “Deuce” McBride, played great games in the 30th Annual Scott Brown Classic. This game is usually played in Beckley, WV, but was moved to Morgantown this year to be more convenient for the two future Mountaineers. Game director Bob Bolen said “Oscar isn’t flying back to Pennsylvania (from Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon) until that Saturday and Miles isn’t getting home from his game (Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game) until that Saturday. Both kids are going to drive to West Virginia on Sunday, and it’s easier for them to drive to Morgantown.” The crowd was fantastic at University High School as fans came in to watch Tshiebwe and McBride play together for the first time. Jordan McCabe spent time talking with them on the court before the game and Emmitt Matthews offered a few creative interview questions after the game.

Tshiebwe started the afternoon getting the crowd fired up with monstrous dunks during the Dunk Contest. His contest-winning dunk was spectacular as he held up two basketballs in his hands, he threw one against the backboard as an alley-oop and finished both balls at the rim simultaneously. The dunking didn’t stop there as Oscar was emphatically slam dunking the entire game. Deuce McBride also had a dunk that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The future Mountaineers were exciting to watch.

Oscar Tshiebwe won the game’s MVP award with a dominant 35 point, 17 rebound performance. He showed why he’s a 5 star recruit, McDonald’s All-American, Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year, etc. Oscar’s double-double came as no surprise as he was also the only player in the 2019 McDonald’s All-American Game to accomplish this feat. Deuce McBride finished the game with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. For the 2019-20 Mountaineers, McBride is willing to play any position the team needs. At 6’2” he can bring the ball up as a point guard or he can be the shooting guard. Oscar Tshiebwe wants to bring energy and togetherness to this WVU team. Oscar is very confident saying, “I think next year, we are going to be amazing.”
