Even after retaining one key player, it looks like West Virginia is losing another. Forward Mohamed Wague has entered the Transfer Portal. 24/7 High School Hoops was first with the news.

Minutes after the news began to circulate, Wague tweeted a message of appreciation for WVU’s interim head coach Josh Eilert and said he will consider staying with West Virginia, but needs to explore his options.

Wague spent the 2022-2023 season as Mountaineer after beginning his college career at Harcum College in Pennsylvania. He appeared in 28 games, averaging 4.1 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game and shooting 74% from the floor.

Prior to coming to West Virginia, the Bamako, Mali, native averaged 14.8 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocks through 35 games in JUCO. The forward shot 65 percent from the field as well. Wague helped Harcum College to a 32-3 record as a freshman. Wague was named to the NJCAA All-American First Team, along with future teammate Patrick Suemnick.

On Sunday, transfer Kerr Kriisa decided to leave the portal and return to WVU after the program announced the promotion of Josh Eilert as interim head coach for the 2023-2024 season.

WV Sports Now will continue to follow any further developments concerning the WVU men’s basketball roster.
