While sports fans are eager for their teams to hit the field or court, West Virginia basketball fans have another game to look forward to with the release of the matchups for the 2020 Big 12-Big East battle.

Jon Rothstein, with CBS Sports, said his sources have the Mountaineers taking on former foe Georgetown at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

The Mountaineers last played the Hoyas on March 18, 2014, and lost 77-65 but were victorious the five games prior in 2012, 2011, twice in 2010 and one in 2009.

The history of these two programs dates back to the first match-up in 1922 and they’ve played a total of 34 games.

March 13 marked the 10th anniversary of WVU’s Big East Tournament championship win over Georgetown. Led by Mountaineer great Da’Sean Butler, WVU won 60-58 for its first-ever Big East Title. That Mountaineer team finished the 2009-10 season with a 31-7 record.

WVU’s other non-conference opponents in 2020-21 will include Farleigh Dickinson, Pitt, Stony Brook, Bowling Green, Robert Morris, Purdue, Youngstown, and Miami (OH).
