West Virginia’s annual Gold-Blue Game will instead be more of a “showcase” type event from now on. The new landscape of college football and the upcoming spring transfer portal forced this change. But no matter what the annual event is called, it’s always one of the best opportunities of the year for the WVU football program to show itself off to recruits, and that won’t change this year.

Below are just a couple of the notable recruits who will be in attendance as Rich Rodriguez’s second tenure as head coach officially gets underway in front of fans at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Legend Bey – 2026 4-star QB, Texas

Bey, who lists himself at 6-foot and 185 pounds, revealed WVU as one of his top 10 schools earlier in the week.

A product of Texasโ€™ North Forney High School, Bey has a top 10 full of Power Four programs and elite level brands. Beyond West Virginia, Bey is considering Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and Texas Tech round out his list. Rodriguez and his staff officially extended an offer to Bey in late February.

A major reason why it makes sense for Bey to be interested in WVU is his potential fit with Rich Rodriguez. Bey is a dual-threat quarterback who totaled 1,444 passing yards with 1,912 rushing yards during his 2024 season. He produced 41 overall touchdowns and was named Offensive MVP.

247 Sports ranks Bey as their 109th player in Texas and No. 771 as far as where he stands nationally.

Aside from his top 10, Bey has offers on the table from note worthy schools like Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, California, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Pitt, TCU, UCF and Utah among many others.

Sam Hamilton – 2026 TE commit, OH

Hamilton committed to West Virginia in February after spooning time on campus for Junior Day.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Archbishop Moeller product out of Cincinnati also held offers from Power Four programs like Duke, Houston, Kentucky and Washington among others. In 2024, he caught 22 passes for 272 yards and scored five touchdowns while also earning All-Conference honors. Heโ€™s a complete player with an elite blocking ability.

Hamilton is rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 44 tight end in his class by 247 Sports.

Julien Horton – 2025 safety, MD

Aiden Guzi – 2026 LB, NY

Baum Hogge – 2027 LB, QB, VA
