As West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins is being officially inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, we’re taking a look at the best moments Huggins has had at his alma mater.

In March 2021, Huggins became the sixth coach in NCAA Division-I history to reach 900 wins. Even better, the Mountaineers did so in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. West Virginia, led by Miles “Deuce” McBride and Derek Culver, earned a No. 3 seed in the 2021 tournament, being matched up with No. 14 Morehead State. Heading into this game, WVU was struggling, dropping three out of their last four. But that didn’t stop West Virginia from getting Huggs his milestone win in Indianapolis that night.

Behind a career night from McBride, the Mountaineers cruised to an 84-67 win over Morehead State. McBride finished with 30 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Former Mountaineer Jalen Bridges also had a great shooting night, connecting on 3-of-5 from three. Bridges finished with 15 points.

The best part of the night was the celebration from Huggins’ players to their coach.

WV Sports Now will have coverage of Huggins’ induction this weekend.
