WVU’s linebacker room is expanding with a reigning national champion. North Dakota State LB Jasir Cox announced his commitment to West Virginia on Monday.

Cox is set to be a welcome addition to defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley’s versatile secondary. In 2021, 6-foot-1, 209-pound Cox registered 58 tackles, three TFLs, a trio of interceptions for 55 yards, two pass breakups, and 1.5 sacks through 14 games. Those stats placed him as an All-Missouri Valley Football Conference Second Team member; his tackles also ranked him third on the Bison’s roster and will potentially place him first on that of the Mountaineers if he duplicates even close to his 2021 FCS season.

Cox comes to Morgantown utilizing his final year of eligibility, and will be a solid addition to head coach Neal Brown’s transfer portal plan. He’ll join redshirt senior Exree Loe, redshirt juniors Lance Dixon and Lee Kpogba, redshirt sophomores Will Schoonover and Jairo Faverus, and redshirt freshman Kaden Biser.
