WVU had to reschedule its original home opener this week, going from a matchup against Robert Morris on Wednesday to playing two games over the course of three days. Despite this, WVU went on to defeat North Texas on Friday and then-No. 19 Richmond on Sunday. The Mountaineers moved up three spots from No. 11 last week, leap-frogging Creighton, Illinois and Duke.
This is the first time since Jan. of 2018 the Mountaineers have cracked the top-10 rankings. Other ranked Big 12 teams include No. 2 Baylor, No. 5 Kansas, No. 11 Texas and No. 14 Texas Tech. Oklahoma State also received 48 votes.
WVU is scheduled to play just one game this week. Opening Big 12 play against Iowa State at 9 p.m. Friday in the WVU Coliseum.
