What Are the Odds West Virginia Wins Big 12 Conference Title?

Even though it may seem early, spring means predicting what will happen in the fall for college football media. To that end, a national outlet awarded each Big 12 program odds for winning the conference title. Do they think West Virginia is worth betting on?

Here’s what Cody Nagel had to say about the Mountaineers:

“Neal Brown got himself off a warm seat after he led West Virginia to its highest single-season win total (nine) since 2016. The Mountaineers return most of their production from 2023 and could be in position as a potential dark horse Big 12 title contender in 2024. Starting quarterback Garrett Greene as well as top rushers CJ Donaldson Jr. and Jahiem White are in the backfield again. The trio combined for 2,412 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on the ground last season.”

The hype around the 2024 Mountaineers stems from WVU’s surprising success in 2023 and the fact most of the key contributors are returning. West Virginia finished 9-4, including a Duke’s Mayo Bowl win, and 6-3 in Big 12 play. Garrett Greene is now being recognized by some experts as one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football.

Conversely, the hesitation for others to be high on WVU usually focuses on the overall struggles throughout most of Brown’s tenure and the argument West Virginia simply took advantage of a schedule that turned out to be easier than it was projected to be.

Either way, there’s pressure on Brown to keep his Mountaineers climbing and there’s more reason for excitement heading into the 2024 than other years of the recent past.
