Wide receiver commit talks returning to Morgantown, coaching staff, future of WVU football

This past weekend, 2020 West Virginia wide receiver commit Devell Washington (Bay City, MI) made a return trip to Morgantown to participate at the Mountaineers one day camp.

“It was great, it felt great to be back home!” Washington said. “The camp went really well. I did pretty good and it was good to work with coach Dye. He taught me a lot of things and gave me some things that I can work on.” he added.

With Washington being one of the first commitments for the Mountaineers in the 2020 class, he has turned himself into a “recruiting role” instead of being the recruited. “The process was really stressful. I always try to recruit my friends, I tell them that we are building something big at West V.”

The 2020 class is off to a solid start, but Washington thinks the potential for this class in particular is through the roof. “I was talking to coach Brown about the class and it has a chance to be the best in school history. If we keep adding pieces, I can see a couple Big 12 championships in our future.” He also noted his tight relationship with quarterback commit Garrett Greene and offered his thoughts on his style of play, “He, Reese (Smith) and I have a group chat. We talk just about every day. He (Greene) has crazy swag and he can make all of throws.”

As for Washington’s relationship with the coaching staff, it’s only gotten stronger as each day goes by, “Coach Brown is really down to earth and you can tell that he really cares about his players. I’d run through a brick wall for him if I had to. Coach Brown and the rest of the staff are going to take the Big 12 by storm.”
