Wren Baker, Media & Fans Praise WVU Football Staff for Signing Day Success
It’s never easy putting any recruiting class together, but the difficulty increases exponentially without a head coach. But even under extremely difficult and uncertain circumstances, the remaining WVU football staff managed to have success on Wednesday’s December Early National Signing Day.
And based on retaining most of the committed players and even sprinkling in a couple surprise flips, the staff, and that includes coaches all the way down to anyone who works directly in recruiting or holds any support position at all, has been receiving praise for their hard work.
During his Tuesday press conference to discuss West Virginia’s coaching search, WVU director of athletics Wren Baker even publicly said that all he asks of anyone left on Neal Brown’s staff is they do right by WVU while employed by WVU. If they do that, he told them he will then do right by them. Clearly, Baker feels they did right by the school as far as locking in a solid 2025 class.
Remarkable job by the @WVUfootball staff on today's signees. Adversity reveals character and the character of our coaches and staff has been tremendous this week. I am thankful for their hard work and effort. #HailWV

But Baker is far from the only person recognizing what the staff pulled off only a few days removed from Brown’s firing on Sunday evening.
The messages below show just some of the positive reaction from both fans and fellow media.
Phenomenal day for @WVUfootball and an amazing effort by our coaches and recruiting staff. #TakeMeHome25

No matter what happens and no matter what anyone may think of the class, I think all of Mountaineer Nation should appreciate the insanely hard work of the remaining staff to secure as many recruits as they did and even sprinkle in some extra players. The people who made the finalโฆ

Want to take a moment and acknowledge the entire West Virginia staff who worked their tails off to not only keep this recruiting class together, but grow it.
The circumstances were not good. But yโall kept working. Shows a ton of character.

Again, no matter what else happens today – or nothing at all – simply unbelievable job by this #WVU coaching staff. Mountaineers have signed 21 commitments, kept the majority of their class in the fold and even added two high-profile players in the process. Bravo.

This early signing day for WVU, considering we donโt have a coach, is INSANE. Got a ton of excitement for next season already.
Awesome job by the remaining staff. They deserve a lot of love
