WVU Basketball once again has 13 players on the roster for the upcoming season. There are many question marks as interim HC Josh Eilert takes over a whole new roster. Let’s take a look at WVSN‘s initial depth chart for the Mountaineers.

1: Kerr Kriisa / Kobe Johnson OR Jeremiah Bembry

2: RaeQuan Battle** / Seth Wilson

3: Jose Perez / Josiah Harris / Ofri Naveh

4: Akok Akok / Quinn Slazinski

5: Jesse Edwards / Patrick Suemnick

RS: Noah Farrakhan**

** – needs waiver cleared by NCAA

The biggest question mark heading into September is the decision of Battle’s waiver. If denied, Battle will sit out this year and prepare for the 2024-25 season. This will change WVU’s rotation tremendously as they will need to move multiple pieces around. If Battle is denied, expect Perez to play the two and Johnson to help out at the three position. The good news for Eilert and his staff is that they have many players that can play multiple positions.

In the frontcourt, the group at the four and five will have to work together through foul trouble. Expect Suemnick, Akok and Slazinski to help Edwards at the five.

Farrakhan, a transfer from Eastern Michigan, also needs a waiver to play this season but it is expected that he will sit out this year. Farrakhan is a multi-time undergraduate transfer, which by NCAA rule requires a waiver.

Eilert is preparing for his 17th season with West Virginia, replacing Bob Huggins who resigned in June. Eilert served as an assistant last season after working his way up the coaching ladder.

Eilert has had an eventful seven weeks after the promotion to interim. Eilert hired two new assistants Da’Sean Butler and Jordan McCabe, while promoting Alex Ruoff from his graduate assistant role. Eilert also brought on former Houston and Texas Tech head coach James Dickey as a senior advisor.
