According to Rivals, the lead recruiter for West Virginia for Williams is ShaDon Brown. Brown just finished his second season as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for West Virginia.
Williams is almost a consensus three-star recruit having received such a ranking from each major recruiting outlet outside of ESPN. He is ranked similarly on the other three websites – 247Sports, Rivals and On3. He falls in the top 35 in the state of Maryland for all three.
While each website essentially agrees on his talent, they disagree on where he will play in college. 247Sports currently has Maryland in the “warm” category on his page, the only school to get that designation. Meanwhile, On3 expert Stephen Wagner predicts Williams will commit to Miami.
No experts on Rivals have made a prediction, although their fan prediction is currently tied between Maryland and Miami, for what that is worth. Williams previously spoke to On3 about his visit to Miami, referring to it as “O-line heaven.”
Both Maryland and Miami are with West Virginia in Williams’ final eight. The rest of his top choices round out with Michigan St., South Carolina, Tennessee, USC and Virginia Tech.
Interestingly enough, he has not taken even unofficial visits to most of those schools. That includes West Virginia as he has yet to take an unofficial trip to Morgantown.
In total, he has taken seven unofficial visits with two trips to Miami and two to South Carolina combining for four of those. He has also taken unofficial visits to NC State, Virginia Tech and USC. NC State did not offer him though and were subsequently left out of his final eight.
Williams’ final eight was narrowed from a list of 17 offers. All final of his eight were the only power-five conference schools to offer Williams. He also received offers from FCS schools Campbell, Charlotte, Morgan State and Norfolk State alongside offers from group-of-five schools Bowling Green, Connecticut, James Madison, Marshall and Temple.
