Tucker DeVries Signs Contract With Joe Mazzulla’s Boston Celtics
In a turn of events that WVU fans can’t help but laugh about, the most hated former Mountaineer of recent memory has teamed up with one of the most beloved.
Tucker DeVries has signed an “Exhibit 10” contract with Joe Mazzulla’s Boston Celtics. The former West Virginia turned Indiana product will now try to impress Mazzulla and his staff enough to earn even more of a shot at the NBA. An “Exhibition 10” contract is a one-year, non guaranteed NBA training camp deal.
DeVries even having to sign a tryout type contract after the 2026 NBA Draft speaks to his fall from grace. Initially projected as a player who could even play his way into being a first round pick when he followed his father, Darian, to West Virginia, capping his college career off with a subpar season at Indiana caused DeVries to fall off draft boards all together.
Playing in 32 games a year removed from only suiting up for eight as a Mountaineer, DeVries posted the lowest scoring average of his career during the 2025-26 season. He averaged just 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 39.7% from the field, finishing below 40% for the first time in five college seasons.
Of course, WVU fans will forever remember DeVries for averaging 14.9 points and shooting 47.3% from three in 2024-25 before missing the rest of the season. DeVries’ absence then led to his team being snubbed from the NCAA Tournament and his dad eventually jumping ship to Indiana, where he would soon join.
In 144 college games between time spent at Drake, WVU and Indiana, DeVries recorded a scoring average of 16.8 and shooting clips of 42.8% from the field and 35.9% from three.
In all reality, Mazzulla is all business and wants to win way too much to have Mountaineer Nation’s distain for DeVries factor into any evaluation of DeVries. However, DeVries landing with the only NBA team coached by a former WVU player is funny nonetheless.
