WVU pitcher Robby Porco named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Despite losing the series, WVU baseball did manage to end the weekend on a hight note. This has now carried over to the new week with Robby Porco being named Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week.

The freshman struck out 12 in six innings while allowing just two runs (only one earned) on just three hits against Kansas on Sunday. His dozen strikeouts are the most for any West Virginia pitcher so far this season.

This now marks the second time this season a Mountaineer has earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Blaine Traxel earned it on Feb. 27 following his performance against Arizona.

Porco now owns the distinction as the first WVU baseball freshman to win Pitcher of the Week since West Virginia joined the Big 12. He’s the 17th overall WVU pitcher to win the award.

The Mountaineers will be back on the diamond on Tuesday night at Penn State. First pitch from State College is set for 6 pm ET.
