The WVU baseball team is coming off another Big 12 series win over the weekend, granted this time not via a sweep. And as usual, the major polls took note and updated West Virginia’s placement in the national rankings.

Despite losing one game in a Saturday double-header to Texas Tech, D1Baseball has moved the Mountaineers up two spots to No. 12. In contrast, Baseball America, who has previously been higher on WVU, moved them down from No. 8 to No. 9.

They are now 13th in the Coaches Poll and at No. 7 according to Perfect Game, awarding WVU their highest ranking for the week.

Sunday’s win over the Red Raiders did more than just win the series, it achieved some history for the program.

WVU Baseball, Jack Kartsonas Blank Texas Tech, Tie Regular Season Wins Record

The Mountaineers (39-7, 18-4 Big 12) tied a program record for regular season wins: they also picked up 39 in 1994 and 2023 before one postseason win apiece. This time, however, they have seven more games on their regular season schedule to set the record further. Another win will tie their all-time wins record including the postseason; two more will leave the 2025 Mountaineers standing alone in West Virginia baseball history.

Up next, WVU will face the Pitt Panthers on the road, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. West Virginia will then travel to Manhattan, Kansas to meet Kansas State in a series that starts on Friday before closing out the regular season by hosting Kansas over the next weekend at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
