WVU Baseball took the game and their series against Texas Tech on Sunday, May 4, winning 5-0 with the help of seven scoreless innings from veteran right-hander Jack Kartsonas and a two-run home run from Kyle West.

The Mountaineers (39-7, 18-4 Big 12) tied a program record for regular season wins: they also picked up 39 in 1994 and 2023 before one postseason win apiece. This time, however, they have seven more games on their regular season schedule to set the record further. Another win will tie their all-time wins record including the postseason; two more will leave the 2025 Mountaineers standing alone in West Virginia baseball history.

Kartsonas fanned seven Red Raiders on 95 pitches, allowing five hits (all singles). Texas Tech managed to put a runner in scoring position against him just twice, one apiece during his last two innings, but they couldn’t scrape a run across.

West Virginia’s offense, meanwhile, took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning as Brodie Kresser doubled home two runs, then traded places with Grant Hussey on another two-bagger. West’s home run came in the seventh inning – his 50th career home run, giving head coach Steve Sabins a chance to give the ball to Carson Estridge with plenty of breathing room. Estridge racked up three strikeouts in two innings, allowing a pair of singles in the ninth inning but managing to preserve the shutout.
