WVU Baseball Officially Inks Transfer Pitcher Tyler Hutson

Two weeks after committing to the WVU baseball program, transfer pitcher Tyler Hutson is now officially locked in with the Mountaineers. West Virginia announced the signing of Hutson on social media on Tuesday morning.

Hutson, a transfer pitcher from University of Southern Indiana pitcher, is now advancing his career by taking his talents to the Big 12. The senior has appeared in 61 games to this point and has thrown 132.2 innings over three seasons with a 4.95 ERA. Opponents held to only a .236 batting average against him during the 2023 season.

At the time of his commitment, he became WVU’s first commitment since June 21 when they added JT Huether, a player with a primary position of infield and also experience as a pitcher.

For another notable transfer, WVU head coach Steve Sabins also secured USC Upstate transfer outfielder Jace Rinehar in late June as well.

In addition to the new additions, Sabins will also welcome back catcher Logan Sauve. He took his name out of consideration to be dated ahead of the final day of the MLB Draft earlier in the month.

“My dream has always been to play in Omaha and to play in the MLB. I’m taking my name out of the draft so I can chase my dream of helping take WVU Baseball to Omaha,” said Sauve on X (formerly Twitter).

“We are building something special in Morgantown. I look forward to playing for this state and university,” he added.

The 2025 season will mark Sauve’s third as a Mountaineer.  He hit .308 with eight home runs, 42 runs scored and 37 RBI in 45 games played during the 2024 season.
