WVU Baseball swept their series with the Lipscomb Bisons on Monday, riding a homer from Sam White to an extra innings victory.

The Mountaineers (7-0) have yet to lose a game under head coach Steve Sabins. White left his fingerprints all over the game with three runs and an RBI, while closer Reese Bassinger took the bump in the eighth inning and picked up the win, allowing just one baserunner himself (another reached via error) as he worked three frames on an efficient 47 pitches.

Lipscomb jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning with a two out, two run homer from first baseman Damion Kenealy Jr.

White drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and eventually came around to score courtesy of two productive outs and a single.

Skylar King robbed a leadoff double with a diving catch in the bottom of the frame. His snag almost certainly prevented a run from scoring as the next two Bisons reached base.

White then sparked a rally in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs: he and Kyle West singled, then senior outfielder Jace Rinehart wore a pitch in a pinch-hit appearance. White and West scored on a fielding error, pushing West Virginia ahead 3-2, then Ben Lumsden tacked on another run after grounding into a double play.

No easy wins….

The lead didnโ€™t last long as Lipscomb got two back in the seventh, loading the bases against Jack Kartsonas and then scratching runs across with a fieldersโ€™ choice and a single.

Armani Guzman reached third base as a pinch-runner in the ninth but couldnโ€™t advance the final 90 feet, then Bassinger returned the favor after the would-be winning run reached via error but remained stranded on first.

White crushed a first pitch homer to right the following frame, celebrating with an emphatic bat flip, and Bassinger worked around a two-out walk to secure the win.

Up next for WVU Baseball is the Wednesday, Feb. 26 home opener vs Ohio, set for 2 p.m.
