WVU basketball has lost another player to the transfer portal, with freshman point guard KJ Tenner announcing his entrance Monday morning.

The NCAA’s transfer portal officially opened Monday. It will stay open for 30 days and close on April 22.

Tenner is the third Mountaineer to enter the portal since the season ended, joining fellow freshman Jonathan Powell and senior Tucker DeVries, who plans to follow former WVU coach Darian DeVries to Indiana.

KJ Tenner, who was named Mr. Basketball in Tennessee as a high school senior, played in 30 games this season, averaging 13.1 minutes per game. His nightly averages were 2.4 points, 1.1 assists and 0.8 steals, shooting 35% from the floor, 15.4% from three and 61.1% from the foul line.

He scored a season-high 10 points in his college debut against Robert Morris in the first game of the season, his only double-digit scoring night. He dished out a season-best six assists in a loss to Arizona State on Jan. 21.

The immediate future for WVU basketball remains unclear as athletic director Wren Baker continues the process of hiring a new head coach.
