With its only action last week being a road loss to No. 3 Kansas, the West Virginia men’s basketball team fell back two spots in this week’s AP Top-25 Poll. No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 8 Texas both jumped the Mountaineers in this week’s rankings.

WVU (7-2, 1-1 Big 12) suffered just its second loss of the season last week, losing to the Jayhawks (8-1, 2-0) in a top-10 conference battle. WVU opened this season ranked No. 15 before breaking into the top-10 earlier this month. WVU’s two losses this season have come against No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 3 Kansas.

Texas (7-1, 1-0) meanwhile have rattled off three straight wins after losing to No. 4 Villanova on Dec. 6 and passed the Mountaineers in this week’s poll. The Longhorns are preparing to meet the Jayhawks for the first time this season Saturday in Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

WVU will play Texas for the first time at home on Jan. 9. This week, the Mountaineers are scheduled to play Northeastern at home on Tuesday and at Oklahoma on Saturday.

Other Big 12 teams ranked in the poll are No. 2 Baylor and No. 13 Texas Tech.
