Anthony Wilson is a Mountaineer. The Georgia Southern transfer defensive back will look to help stabilize the West Virginia secondary.

But for those unfamiliar with Wilson (5-foot-10, 200 pounds), a player who spent the past four years with an non major conference program, WV Sports Now caught up with Wilson to learn more about who he is as a player and why he feels he is now ready for major conference football.

Beyond wanting to advance as a player and experience a higher level of competition, Wilson made his intentions clear. “I’ve done everything I had to do at GSU over the past 4 years and I learned a lot,” he said.

“I’m just ready to come in and make an immediate impact. I’m more hungry than ever!”

So why did Wilson choose WVU exactly? What qualities does he hope to find besides just making him a better player? “I’m looking to come somewhere where I can come in and make an instant impact in the DB room, as well as, a family oriented coaching staff that brings the best out of there players while I also improve my draft stock,” Wilson when he received an offer from the Mountaineers.

Hearing that makes a mutual interest between Wilson and West Virginia make sense. WVU often sells recruits on West Virginia being a major program with a long history that can deliver a family atmosphere in a typical college town like Morgantown. It now sounds as if that may be just what Wilson desires to find at this point in his career.

He also fits into WVU head coach Neal Brown’s current plan for this coming season. Brown made it known at the start of his team’s Spring ball period that acquiring more secondary help in the portal is a priority before the Fall. So despite landing a commitment from Minnesota Beanie Bishop, it stands to reason why West Virginia would think Wilson fits as well.
