The WVU football program announced another update to their coaching staff on Tuesday.

Tre’ Bell joins the Mountaineers after spending the last two seasons as the cornerbacks coach at Akron. He will serve as a defensive analyst at WVU.

Below is how West Virginia describes Bell’s new role.

In his role at WVU, Bell organizes, implements and maintains all aspects of game analysis for the defensive coaching staff with an emphasis on the defensive secondary. He analyzes game film and formulates game plans to assist the defensive coaching staff with game preparation. He also charts and tracks statistics during practice and games and assists the head coach and coaching staff with on-campus recruiting operations.

Prior to Akron, Bell was as a defensive graduate assistant at Florida State, where he coached All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team defensive back Jammie Robinson.

He also started his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Mississippi State. Bell worked closely with true freshman Emmanuel Forbes, helping him to earn Freshman All-America honors in 2020 after leading the SEC with five interceptions and ranking first nationally with three interception return touchdowns.

He served as a quality control coach working with defensive backs at Eastern Kentucky in 2018 where he mentored All-Ohio Valley Conference First-Team defensive back Leodis Moore III (2018) and second-team cornerback Cornelius Floyd (2018).

Bell’s addition gives WVU another coach with relatively recent playing experience. He played cornerback at Vanderbilt. After redshirting in 2013, he then appeared in 20 games during the 2014 and 2015 seasons and recorded 33 tackles. Bell sat out the 2016 season after transferring to UConn and appeared in all 12 games, including eight starts as a senior in 2017. He finished with 49 tackles, one interception, two pass breakups and three forced fumbles.

Hiring Bell comes after WVU promoted Tyler Allen to quarterbacks coach, added Victor Cabral as outside linebackers coach and are reportedly bringing Ryan Nehlen back to West Virginia as an analyst.
