WVU Football recruit Matt Sieg

The WVU football program is now joining the mix for one of the premiere overall athletes in the region.

Matt Sieg is only a sophomore, but he’s already collecting offers from major schools all across the country. But West Virginia is hoping the class of 2026 prospect out of Fort Cherry High School in a southern suburb of the Pittsburgh area wants to stay close to home when it’s time to take his talents to the next level.

Sieg posted about being able to add an offer from the Mountaineers on social media late Thursday night. Listed at 6-foot and 170 pounds, Sieg is being recruited as both a quarterback and a defensive back, but WVSN has learned WVU’s interest is simply as an athlete right now.

West Virginia safeties coach Dontae Wright is leading the recruitment of Sieg. He also plays a myriad of other sports in high school.

Sieg says Wright told him he would love for him to visit for a game soon. The Mountaineers have three remaining home games this season.

This offer comes just two days after Backyard Brawl rival Pitt extended an offer of their own to Sieg. Some of Sieg’s other recent offers include Penn State, Nebraska and Syracuse.
