WVU Football Looking at Division II Star WR at Nearby School
As West Virginia is still in search of more wide receiver talent, the WVU football staff could be looking to elevate a Division II star at a nearby school.
A day after Michael Salvo of Nilson Sports reported that multiple Power Four programs were to be interested in Clarion transfer Trevon Tate, WV Sports Now has learned that the Mountaineers have joined the mix as well.

West Virginia would represent a different option in the Big 12 for Tate, who has been garnering attention from Pitt, a school who would allow him to stay in the same city, Stanford, as they continue to transition to the ACC, and even Arkansas State and Kent State below the Power Four level. UTEP also sent him his first officially FBS offer on April 30.
Tate, a two-time All-Conference player, is coming off a 2024 season that saw him explode in production. He made 65 receptions for 1,137 receiving yards on 17.5 yards per catch in 2024 and was named a Division II All-American. Beyond his work on offense, Tate returned six punts for a total of 36 yards.

The 6-foot, 180-pound is an Erie, Pa. native and spent four years at Mercyhurst before transferring to Clarion before the 2024 season. As a true athlete, Tate excelled at several different positions in high school.
During his senior year, Tate ran for more than 1,000 yards and scored 15 touchdowns as a running back, threw for 834 yards and 13 touchdowns when under center and also notched 114 receiving yards.
