WVU Football Offers Memphis DL Transfer After Watching Him in Frisco Bowl
Will a player who just played against West Virginia in the Frisco Bowl now become a Mountaineer himself? Well, the WVU football program offered Memphis defensive line transfer William Whitlow Jr. on Saturday.
Whitlow (6-foot-2, 220 pounds), who recorded one tackle in the Tigers’ 42-37 win over WVU on Dec. 17, is now on the hunt for a new home after spending four years, including a redshirt season in 2021, at Memphis.
West Virginia became Whitlow’s first big offer after being placed in the portal on Dec. 27.

A member of three straight bowl winning teams, Whitlow totaled 24 tackles, four sacks, a pass deflections and a forced fumble during the 2024 season. Overall, he registered 67 total tackles and nine sacks throughout his time with Memphis.
Whitlow, a Millbrook, Ala. native, was regarded as a three-star recruit out of high school by major recruiting outlets like 247 Sports.
Is it possible WVU football head coach Rich Rodriguez was scouting players on the opposing team as well as his own while watching the Mountaineers in the Frisco Bowl? Absolutely.
