The WVU football program once again finds itself in the running for a four-star running back. Just a day after reporting West Virginia could land one top back from Ohio, Hayes Fawcett of On3.com revealed another one has the Mountaineers are on his list.

Marquise Davis (6-foot-1, 210 pounds), also from Cleveland, Ohio like Bo Jackson, has narrowed down his favorites to a top 10. In addition to WVU, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC made the cut.

Davis, a product of Cleveland Heights High School, is ranked as the No. 7 running back in the 2025 class by On3. He’s also a consensus four-star prospect, also earning four stars from national major recruiting outlets ESPN, Rivals and 247 Sports. ESPN has Davis ranked the highest in terms of Ohio players at No. 4 in the state.

The longstanding trend of success with running backs, most notably evident in the emergence of Jahiem White, continues to place West Virginia among other big brand names when it comes to acquiring top running back recruits. Davis is also another player WVU has been high on for well over a year, first offering him back in December of 2022.

Programs like Boston College, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Purdue and Iowa State failed to stay in the running for Davis.

Davis ran for 2,228 yards on 8.8 yards per carry with 35 touchdowns in 13 games in 2023.
