WVU Football vs. Virginia Tech Week 3 Betting Line

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The odds are in for Sept. 18’s WVU-Virginia Tech game. Despite Virginia Tech being 2-0 on the season and unseating a then-no. 10 North Carolina team to begin 2021 play, the West Virginia Mountaineers (1-1) are in possession of the spread. After going 1-1 covering the spread so far, the Mountaineers have a significantly closer game on the horizon.

A three-point favorite, the Mountaineers will have to work even harder to maintain the spread. This Virginia Tech team has outscored its 2021 opponents thus far 52-24. Conversely, the Mountaineers have managed to outscore opponents 90-30; there’s obviously an asterisk beside that 90 though, as 66 of those points came from an uncontested, dominant win over FCS’ Long Island yesterday.

DraftKings Sportsbook has the odds in WVU’s favor as well, but by half a point less at -2.5. DraftKings Sportsbook set the moneyline at -135.

The Black Diamond Trophy has been passed back and forth since its creation in 1997. The last time these two border rivals met was in 2017, when the Hokies beat the Mountaineers in Landover, Md. 31-24. The Mountaineers own the series 28-23-1, but this year could easily flip the script. The Hokies are on a three-game win streak against the Mountaineers, but when Circa Sports released its Week 3 bets, WVU held one of the smallest margins of the week at -3. WVU has been victorious 7-6 when playing under the Milan Puskar Stadium lights against the Hokies, and a full stadium next Saturday may just prove to be what makes the difference for this scrappy Mountaineer squad.

The over/under for Sept. 18’s game is set at 49 points.
