WVU Linebacker Charlie Benton Enters Transfer Portal

Published

on

West Virginia linebacker Charlie Benton has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to rivals.com.

Coming out of Opelika High School in Alabama in 2016, Benton originally attended Butler Community College in Kansas. He redshirted in 2016 and was rated as a three-star recruit after playing as a safety in 2017.

He came to WVU in 2018 as a JUCO transfer and transitioned to linebacker. He started the season-opener against Tennessee that season but suffered a season-ending knee injury in that game. Benton did not play in 2019 and saw time in six games in 2020.

Benton, a redshirt-senior, will have one season of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA’s blanket eligibility waiver passed for the 2020 season.
