West Virginia sophomore point guard Jordan McCabe was limited in the first practice in preparation for the upcoming trip to Spain in August, announced head coach Bob Huggins Wednesday afternoon in his first press conference for the upcoming season.

“It’s going to swell up for a period of time a little bit.” Explained Huggins. “It’s not like it blows up but he’s got a little swelling in it, that’s going to happen until the knee gets used to it. He’s full go now really. We held him out of a little bit of stuff today because I didn’t want, and doc didn’t think it was a good idea for him to go a solid three hours after not having more than an hour before. But who knows? I mean, he may have been out here four hours at midnight, who knows? He’s in here a lot.”

“Jordan played with a torn MCL and had the surgery.” Said Huggins. “We’ve been fighting with him about, don’t do so much. Most guys your fighting with to do something. He understands, he’s been pretty good.”

McCabe had a slow start to his highly anticipated freshman season, but as the season rolled along, he steadily improved. He made significant strides and became the leader of the Mountaineers once veterans Esa Ahmad and Wesley Harris were dismissed from the team.

Jordan caught fire at the end of February starting with his first double figure game of the season with 14 points in a road loss to Baylor. The young nucleus around him started to come together, began resembling a basketball team and started to put some wins together.

That began a seven-game stretch in which his confidence was high, averaging 16 points and 5.4 assists a game including a quarterfinal win over No.7 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament.

McCabe is expected to compete in the three game in Spain.
