Mountaineers in the Pros
WVU Product Devin Carter Waived by Carolina Panthers
A WVU product will have to find a new team to continue pursuing the NFL. On Sunday, the Carolina Panthers waived former Mountaineer wide receiver Devin Carter.
This move was done as the Panthers cut down their roster as they progress through training camp. Carter, who signed with Carolina as an undrafted free agent in April and then went through rookie mini camp, was also cut in the spring but then brought to training camp for another look.
Carter was held out of recent practices while dealing with an undisclosed injury. On April 10, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a source told him that Carter had a core muscle procedure and would need 4-6 weeks of rehab. There’s no word on if his current injury is a the result of a setback stemming from that muscle procedure.
In his lone season as a Mountaineer, Carter caught 27 balls for 501 yards and scored two touchdowns. Overall throughout his entire college career, Carter recorded 145 receptions for 2,407 yards and 12 touchdowns. He spent the first five years of his college career with North Carolina State before transferring to West Virginia.
Carter averaged over 18 yards per reception last season.
