MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — WVU Women’s Basketball moved to 7-0 on the season Saturday with a 90-50 win over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

The Mountaineers’ defense dominated once again, forcing 31 turnovers that led to 38 points. What’s more, they managed to do so cleanly, charged with just 13 fouls in the process—leading to just one made free throw on four attempts for the Bonnies. St. Bonaventure, meanwhile, committed 25 fouls, with three key contributors spending much of the second half in foul trouble, helping the Mountaineers pile on late.

West Virginia forced the Bonnies into self-inflicted errors like travels and ten-second violations throughout the game, as just 18 of the turnovers they created came off blocks and steals. Junior guard JJ Quinerly took over early, recording ten points in the first quarter on the way to a game-best 21 points.

St. Bonaventure exploited West Virginia’s aggressive press early, using stretch passes to catch the Mountaineers out of position. The two teams played to a 10-10 deadlock in the first four minutes, but the Mountaineers’ defense settled in nicely from there, holding the Bonnies to just two more baskets as they closed out the frame on a 17-5 run.

The Mountaineers dominated the paint in the middle frames, scoring 33 points off layups and free throws during that span to build a 69-43 lead.

West Virginia showed their flair for big plays early in the fourth period, scoring two three-pointers in a span of 13 seconds—both coming off of turnovers. That sparked a 12-0 run for the Mountaineers, a span that included five forced turnovers.

WVU Women’s Basketball moves on to host the Penn State Nittany Lions (7-1) at 6 pm on Monday, December 4.
