Most WVU baseball fans know about Steve Sabins dismissing Chase Meyer from the program early in 2026 season. Everyone also knows the Mountaineers have since embarked on the most historic season in program history and are headed to the school’s first-ever College World Series. But what happened to Meyer?

Well, Meyer is pitching again. He recently made his MLB Draft League debut, striking out half of the batters he faced for the State College Spikes.

Over the weekend as his former West Virginia teammates were busy sweeping Cal Poly to win a Super Regional title and secure a trip to Omaha, Meyer was on the mound. He pitched 3.0 innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing one run off three hits and two walks.

In two appearances in 2026 with WVU, Meyer went 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and five strikeouts. He was 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 22 games and three starts during the 2025 season.

The WVU baseball program’s only official statement about Meyer’s dismissal reads as follows:ย โ€œJunior right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer is no longer with our baseball program. I want to thank Chase for his contributions the past three years to our team and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
