MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Along with maintaining its top-10 national ranking, the WVU Men’s Soccer team has even more to celebrate.

Senior striker Yoran Popovic was named the Mid-American Conference’s Player of the Week. The Zuidlaren, Netherlands native is flying high after he helped WVU to a 3-0 Dayton win, a game which produced his first career game-winning goal to kick off the Mountaineer scoring tirade. He backed his clutch performance up with a huge 90′ goal to put WVU up 3-0 over St. Bonaventure, en route to a 4-0 win at Dick Dlesk on Sept. 25.

In two games last week, Popovic tallied eight shots, including five on goal. His scores against Dayton and St. Bonaventure, coupled with his score against then- No. 6 Marshall the week prior, brings his production to a score per game through the last three. Those three notches rocket him to first on the team in scoring, followed closely by freshman defender Frederik Jorgensen, fifth year center back Kevin Morris, and sophomore striker Ciro Bourlet Jaeggi, all with two.

This conference honor is the first of Popovic’s career; it marks the Mountaineers’ second of 2021, as junior midfielder Luke McCormick took it home on Sept. 6.
