2022 Three-Star DE Zion Young Decommits From West Virginia
A third recruit from West Virginia’s 2022 class has decided to decommit, joining Kevin Thomas and Justin Williams.
Three-star Zion Young (a 6-foot-6, 225-pound defensive end from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia) originally committed to WVU in late June, following a visit to Morgantown on June 24, but his time as a Mountaineer commit has come to an end after he announced his decommitment Sunday via Twitter.
My Recruitment is 1000% open💯,
Stay tuned🙏🏾. #God1st pic.twitter.com/hrizTw42Pa— Zion Young (@ZionReese3) November 28, 2021
“Thank you to the West Virginia University coaches for believing me and offering me a chance to come play in Morgantown. After careful consideration and talk with my family and god, we have decided to that it’s in my best interest to decommit from West Virginia at this time.”
“Stay Tuned.”
Young picked up an offer from Michigan State in October, and according to 247Sports and Rivals, it appears that Michigan State holds the advantage in his recruiting chase. Rivals has already 100% projected Young to land with the Spartans.
247Sports rates Young as the 1,274th-ranked recruit in the class, 155th-ranked defensive lineman and 121st-ranked recruit from Georgia. Rivals has not ranked Young, but he does have a 5.5 Rivals Rating.
With Young’s decommitment, three-star edge Aric Burton is the lone defensive lineman committed to WVU’s 2022 class — which now ranks 32nd on 247Sports and 34th on Rivals.
