Asani Redwood Looking for Consistency | WVU Football All 105

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.

After living the first 15 years of his life in Kingston, Jamaica, Asani Redwood didn’t play football until his junior year of high school. Redwood moved to Georgia ahead of his sophomore year, but enrolled too late to earn a spot on the team at Collins Hill High School.

Once he cleared those hurdles, including wondering if the sport was right for him after struggling to adapt in summer practices, Redwood hit the ground running, vaulting himself to a three-star ranking as a recruit.

Since joining the Mountaineers ahead of the 2022 season, Redwood has occupied a rotational role, appearing in 28 games. As defensive line is one of the only position groups that didn’t lose players en masse to the transfer portal, Redwood will compete for playing time again in 2025.

Last year: Redwood appeared in 13 games, starting one, as a reserve option at defensive tackle.

Stats: 20 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 pass breakups and 2.5 tackles for loss across 28 games.

Camp outlook: Edward Vesterinen should lock up a starting role at defensive tackle, so Redwood’s usage will depend on what type of defensive package new coordinator Zac Alley decides to use.

Projected role: Expect another year in a rotational role for Redwood, perhaps competing with redshirt senior Hammond Russell IV for playing time.

Accolades, highlights: A three-star recruit in high school despite playing just two seasons on the gridiron, Redwood won a state championship during his senior year.
