Attending WVU Football Games Remains Costly for Fans

Going to watch the Mountaineers play at Milan Puskar Stadium is a religious experience for WVU football fans, but it’s also not a cheap one. In fact, going to see the Mountaineers play remains one of the most expensive game experiences in the country.

After finishing third last year, the WVU football game day experience has actually move up and now ranks as the second most expensive overall based on the calculations by Oddspedia. West Virginia fans want their team to be No. 1, but are probably not going to celebrate pursuing the top spot in this category.

Factoring in tickets, parking, food, drinks, it costs about $264 for two people to attend a WVU game. According to this data, only Oklahoma surpasses West Virginia as far as a costly game day. WVU was ahead of Notre Dame last year, but has now leapfrogged the Fighting Irish.

WVU’s standing is due to the accumulation of the overall cost for fans despite West Virginia not ranking at the top in cost in any of the previously mentioned categories individually. So while many fans may have their personal techniques for keeping costs down at games, Oddspedia still says Mountaineer Nation is asked to pay more than most.

The Big 12 as a whole is also only behind the SEC in terms of collectively as a conference. The average Big 12 game day cost is $184.40 compared to $203.07 for the SEC and $178.14 for the ACC.

So this then begs the question for WVU fans. Does it bother you knowing how expensive it is to go to a game?

At least unlike when this information was released last year, West Virginia is coming off a successful season on the field. Obviously, fans want to see the Mountaineers win above all else.
