Backyard Brawl Game at WVU Coliseum Rescheduled to 2023

The Backyard Brawl men’s basketball game between Pitt and West Virginia that was scheduled to take place this November has been postponed, with the contract between the teams instead extended for an additional season.

With the NCAA reducing the season length and number of games played for NCAA teams this fall, both Pitt and West Virginia have had to scrap most of their plans for their non-conference schedules, particularly Pitt, which will play 20 ACC games out of a total of 27 available contests.

The schools had agreed to a two-year extension on what was originally a four-year contract back in June, so this season’s postponed contest will be tacked on to the end and played in 2023-24.

The teams will now meet in Morgantown at WVU Coliseum in 2021 and 2023 and at Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center in 2022.

The Mountaineers have won all three games since the resumption of the rivalry in 2017, have won four straight contests overall and lead the overall series, 99-88. The series between the nearby rivals started in 1906.
