BREAKING: 2020 Florida QB Garrett Greene Commits to West Virginia

Today, Neal Brown and West Virginia secured their second verbal commitment inside of a week by adding 2020 Tallahasee, FL signal-caller Garrett Greene.

Greene, 6’0″ and 180 pounds, out of Lawton Chiles high, is ranked the #19 dual threat quarterback nationally and is considered a three star prospect by most recruiting services.  His recruitment recently picked up a good deal of steam after securing offers from TCU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.  Not only accomplished on the gridiron, Greene is also a standout on the baseball diamond and has strong interest in playing both sports at the next level, not unlike current Mountaineers quarterback Trey Lowe III.

To say the Mountaineers moved in quick and with a sense of purpose might be a mild understatement, considering Greene only publically announced his West Virginia offer on March 3rd.  Given the small, yet incredibly successful sample size of Neal Brown and his staff on the recruiting trail, this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.  Brown was courting Greene while he still held office at Troy and clearly kept the conversation alive and well during his transition up to Morgantown.  In addition, this gives West Virginia that all-important QB pledge right out of the gate, something that the previous staff had trouble securing at various points from one recruiting cycle to another.  With Brown’s penchant to run multiple offensive sets necessitating a quarterback that can run and throw in equal measure, Greene might be the first true impact commitment that Neal Brown reels in during the early days of his tenure at West Virginia.
