West Virginia football has received their third commitment in the last 24 hours.

Following pledges from 2022 JUCO safety Marques McLaurin and 2023 running back Jahiem White, Neal Brown adds another defensive player to his program—and he’s a West Virginia native.

Cincinnati Bearcats defensive lineman transfer Zeiqui Lawton announced that he’s joining WVU’s Class of 2022. Lawton, who’s from South Charleton, West Virgnia, made an official visit this past weekend.

The former 3-star recruit from Luke Fickell’s program entered the transfer portal on November 11 and didn’t play at all this fall for the Bearcats.

Prior to committing to Cincinnati, Lawton (6’2″, 240 pounds) held offers from Boise State, Duke, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Marshall, Nebraska, NC State, Oregon, Toledo and West Virginia. On his decision day, Lawton announced a top five of Cincinnati, Oregon, Illinois, Boise State and West Virginia.

Lawton becomes the 18th new addition to the Mountaineers program this year and the second defensive lineman, joining 3-star defensive end Aric Burton from Clearwater, Florida. In total, WVU has commitments from 10 defensive players.
