Dawayne Galloway Jr.’s Game-Breaking Speed | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.
WVU Football managed to flip four-star freshman Dawayne Galloway Jr. away from Purdue in December 2024 during the interim between their firing of Neal Brown and hiring of Rich Rodriguez. Despite the lame duck period, the six-foot tall, 175 pound cornerback decided the Mountaineers were the right fit for himโฆ and on a team with a secondary that needs reworking after a brutal 2024 season, Galloway could get on the field early and often.
Clocked as running a 4.3 second 40-yard dash, Gallowayโs speed would put him among rarified air even against NFL cornerbacks. That speed is part of why opposing quarterbacks didnโt even throw his way during eight of 11 games played his senior year of high schoolโฆ and even if he faces a learning curve against college wide receivers, it will give him a chance to smooth over any mistakes. Any interception he manages to snag will immediately turn into a potential pick six.

Camp outlook: West Virginiaโs secondary finished toward the bottom of Division I FBS in passing defense last season, so Galloway has a chance to get on the field early during his true freshman season.
Projected role: Expect some level of playing time for Galloway in 2025. If summer camp and early season contests go well for him, his role could grow down the stretch.
Accolades, highlights: A four-star recruit out of high school, Galloway picked up two interceptions in 2024 despite only seeing a pass thrown his way in three games. He added 37 tackles as well as 1,478 all-purpose yards (which includes kick and punt returns) and scored a total of 16 touchdowns.
