Dog Lover JJ Wethetholt Greets Good Boys, Girls Before Game

Known dog lover JJ Wetherholt made sure to greet all the good boys and girls before a recent game. Wetherholt was a man of the people in West Virginia, but is now popular among canines as well.
A fan actually posted a picture of Wetherholt with his dog at a “Bark in the Park” event before a Springfield Cardinals game.
“Springfield had Bark in the Park yesterday and JJ Wetherholt waited to see all the dogs walking by before the game,” said the fan on X (formerly Twitter).

The 22-year-old middle infielder helped the Palm Beach Cardinals, St. Louisโ Single-A affiliate, to a Florida State League title last season, knocking in the eventual game-winning run with a seventh inning triple.
JJ Wetherholt put together a strong showing in his first (abbreviated) season of professional baseball, slashing .295/.404/.400 with five doubles and two homers in 29 games. He then caught fire as the postseason began, reaching base more often than not as he put up a .421/.522/.684 slash line.

The Cardinals selected Wetherholt with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, making him the highest-selected player in WVU Baseball history in the process. The lefty-batting shortstop compiled a .370 batting average in 145 games in a Mountaineersโ uniform, slugging 29 home runs despite his measured approach at the plate and finishing at or near the top of most offensive categories on West Virginiaโs all-time leaderboard.
