Fair or Foul? WVU Football Win Total Odds Suggest Rough 2026
Despite an historic offseason recruiting wise and optimism taking steps in the right direction, odds are WVU football fails to make a bowl game again in year two of Rich Rodriguez’s return. That’s at least based on the early win total odds set by FanDuel.
According to the major sportsbook, West Virginia’s wins over/under is set at just 5.5. And while reaching or surpassing five wins would actually be an improvement from the disaster that was the 4-8 2025 season, it would be a far cry from what fans are hoping for.
Rodriguez has even opened the spring practice by period by saying he’s not backing off his goal of delivering a national championship to West Virginia. He even cited Bobby Bowden’s prophesy of needing to first lose big, then lose close before winning close and winning big by adding he’s already lost big and now has to at least win close to show signs of getting the Mountaineers back to national prominence.
In all reality, win total odds and predictions don’t mean much in March, and don’t even have to mean anything at all. Rodriguez will be judged by what happens on the field, not a preseason projection.
However, the addition of more Power Four transfers, a strong freshman class, an overall better roster and what’s expected to be an easier schedule has still resulted in oddsmakers doubting West Virginia.
But of course, past great WVU teams have proved doubters wrong before. Rodriguez’s hope has to now be that the 2026 Mountaineers will do the same.
