A popular WVU football alum is taking the next step in his post playing career. Davoan Hawkins will set aside any pursuit at playing football professionally to start coaching.

Hawkins was announced as the new defensive line coach at George Rogers Clark High School in Kentucky on Tuesday.

The Florida native spent the 2023 season at WVU after transferring from Tennessee State and starting his college career with Kentucky. Hawkins recorded seven tackles and a sack for a West Virginia team that won nine games and capped off the season with a victory in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Hawkins did declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, but did not receive an opportunity with an NFL team.

Despite only experiencing one season as a Mountaineer, Hawkins left Morgantown as a fan favorite, mostly for his big personality and dance moves.

Hawkins was a three-star recruit out of high school and won a 3A state championship in 2017.
