In a surprising turn of events for those who have been following the draft process, Bryce Ford-Wheaton’s name was not called during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Despite his impressive testing numbers at the NFL Combine, especially his time in the 40-yard dash, the WVU wide receiver product was not drafted.

Ford-Wheaton, listed at 6-foot-4 and 221 pounds, was vocal about feeling he’s being disrespected by those who don’t think that much of his NFL potential. He reiterated this by saying “I know people are sleeping on me” at the NFL Combine. It was from that point on that those previously unaware or doubting the WVU product began noticing him. He even voiced he feels he’s done everything he can to show NFL teams what he can offer at WVU’s Pro Day.

While receiver is a position that almost always offers plenty of talent in the NFL Draft, Ford-Wheaton earned his chance to show that he belongs in the league. His experience on Special Teams in college should also help to earn him a shot to make a team’s roster. But to get his opportunity playing in the NFL, he will now have to wait to be signed as an undrafted free agent.
