On the heels of the addition of Pat White, the WVU football staff experiences the loss of a rising star in the coaching ranks. While West Virginia feels comfortable with their offensive staff and the return of White has injected excitement, Isaiah Macklin, who most recently served as the assistant quarterbacks coach on Neal Brown’s staff, accepts a new role with Virginia.

The Cavaliers announced the hiring of Macklin as an offensive analyst on Thursday, Feb. 18. Macklin, 27, quickly worked his way up from being an offensive graduate assistant to directly working with the quarterbacks.

Macklin was heavily involved in the development of Ryder Burton before his departure as well as 2024 dual-threat recruit Khalil Wilkins. He also assisted in evaluating the quarterback prospects and his insight was utilized in recruiting.

Initially, it appeared as if Macklin was going to stay at West Virginia and transition to working under Rich Rodriguez, but those plans changed based on some recent hires. Without a clear path for Macklin to move further up the ladder at WVU, he decided to move on and continue his career at another Power Four program.

Prior to joining the Mountaineers, Macklin served as a scouting assistant with the New Orleans Saints from 2021-23. Macklin, a Lenexa, Kan. native, played college football at Central Arkansas.
